Content DescriptionIncludes a copy of a letter received from Mr Rogers of Ranby; replied that Dumcombe would have plumpers 'in case of need'; believes that Mr Mason's only chance of success is 'distrust' amongst the friends of Duncombe and Vernon; speculates that Mr Foljambe's canvass resulted in very little support; says that Lord Scarborough's tenants have been instructed to vote for Mr Mason only.

Copy of letter from Mr Rogers, Ranby, n.d. [c.Jul. 1837]; writes on behalf of Captain Duncombe; believes from his canvass that unless the duke's interest is 'given exclusively to him he will lose the election'; says that plumpers for Mason and Vernon are commonplace.

Copy of address of William Mason, East Retford, Nottinghamshire, to the 'Independent Freemen and Electors of the Borough of East Retford and Hundred of Bassetlaw', 24 Jul. 1837; presents himself as a candidate for the parliamentary election, following the solicitations of various electors; says he would offer his support to the present government 'in furtherance of an efficient and beneficial Reform in Church and State'; explains he will not have time to carry out a personal canvass, but trusts his friends will support him.
