Content DescriptionHas forwarded a letter to Mr Houldsworth as per the duke's instructions; reports the high probability that both Mr Knight and Mr Houldsworth will be re-elected at the expense of Mr Foljambe; says that some of Mr Houldsworth's agents have canvassed for 'plumpers' and that Mr Falkner has been given false statements about the poll; says that Mr Gulson, the Poor Law Commissioner, was attacked by a mob at Mansfield and was so terrified he will no doubt refuse to return in that capacity; has heard from Sir R.H. Bromley that Lady Lincoln is in good health and that Lord Lincoln is 'expected in the county shortly'; reports that Thomas Grantsmith has been convicted of strangling his four children and will 'suffer the extreme penalty'.

Reports that William Smith has been found guilty of manslaughter after 'brutally' assaulting a 'poor infirm Scotchman'; says he has been 'transported for life'; states that the Agricultural Show is to be held in the Castle Yard.
