Admin HistoryThe British Radiofrequency Spectroscopy Group (BRSG) was established in 1956 to provide a forum for physicists to discuss their research into various branches of radio spectroscopy and magnetic resonance. The Group maintained an informal structure, combining forces only occasionally with other associated bodies. Its meetings were organised by local members in various locations and with a minimum of administration. Despite the Group's title, its mailing list included many scientists from abroad and in 1975 it met in Paris. In 2000 the BRSG affiliated with the Institute of Physics, and changed its name to the 'BRSG: The Magnetic Resonance Group'.
Custodial HistoryThe greater part of the records were transferred in 1981 by the Chairman of the BRSG. Additional material was subsequently acquired in 1983 and 2015 from the Group's Secretary. This catalogue was enhanced, and the collection was repackaged, in 2018-2019 with support from a Wellcome Trust Research Resources Award.
DescriptionThe collection consists of the following series:

Papers relating to the Association of British Spectroscopists (BS/A)
Papers relating to British Radiofrequency Spectroscopy Group Conferences (BS/C)
Papers relating to British Radiofrequency Spectroscopy Group finances (BS/F)
Journals (BS/J)
Papers relating to British Radiofrequency Spectroscopy Group Committee Meetings (BS/M)
Printed papers relating to the history of the British Radiofrequency Spectroscopy Group (BS/P)
Correspondence of the Secretary of the British Radiofrequency Spectroscopy Group (BS/S)
Photographs, CDs and slides (BS/V)

The largest part of the collection consists of papers relating to the BRSG's conferences, particularly books of abstracts of the papers presented. There is also a large quantity of committee meeting papers, together with the Secretary's correspondence files and some financial papers.
